Olympus

/əˈlɪmpəs/ noun

Definition

A mountain in Greece considered the home of the gods in Greek mythology; any place of supreme excellence or achievement.

Etymology

From Greek 'Olympos,' possibly meaning 'the luminous one' or related to a pre-Greek word for mountain. Mount Olympus was both a real peak and the mythical dwelling place of Zeus and the twelve Olympian deities.

Kelly Says

The Olympic Games derive their name from Olympia, not Mount Olympus, but both share the root concept of divine excellence. When we say someone has reached 'olympian heights,' we invoke the ancient Greek belief that mortals could achieve god-like status through exceptional achievement.
