Definition
Feeling extreme disgust or moral outrage about something. It describes a strong emotional reaction that combines physical revulsion with moral indignation.
Etymology
From Latin 'revolvere' (to roll back, turn around), through French 'revolter.' Originally meaning 'to turn away' in disgust, it developed both political (rebellion) and emotional (disgust) meanings in the 16th century.
Kelly Says
Being revolted engages both our disgust system and our moral reasoning - it's where visceral reaction meets ethical judgment. This dual response explains why we use the same word for both spoiled milk and corrupt behavior; our brain processes moral violations similarly to physical contamination.
