Rorschach

/ˈrɔɹ.ʃɑk/ noun

Definition

A psychological test using inkblots that people interpret, supposedly revealing personality traits and unconscious thoughts.

Etymology

Named after Hermann Rorschach (1884-1922), the Swiss psychiatrist who developed the inkblot test in the 1920s as a projective psychological assessment.

Kelly Says

The Rorschach test became famous because it seemed to reveal your deepest psychology, but modern research shows it's actually not very reliable for diagnosis—what you see in an inkblot says more about your eyesight and imagination than your mental state, making it more famous than scientifically valid.
