Seam

/siːm/ noun

Definition

A line where two pieces of fabric are sewn together, or a thin layer of mineral or coal in rock.

Etymology

From Old English 'sēam' meaning 'suture, junction', related to Old Norse 'saumr'. The geological sense developed in the 14th century from the visual similarity to sewn joints.

Kelly Says

Seams tell stories - whether it's the craftsmanship in a garment or the geological history locked in coal seams that powered the Industrial Revolution. They're literally the threads that hold things together.
