Secondhand

/ˈsɛkəndˌhænd/ adjective

Definition

Not new; previously owned or used by someone else, or heard from another person rather than directly.

Etymology

Compound of 'second' and 'hand.' Originally a printing term—'second hand' referred to type that had been used before. Expanded to describe any previously-owned goods. Can also mean indirect information (not from first-hand experience).

Kelly Says

The secondhand market is now massive: secondhand clothing sales growing faster than fast fashion! Buying used reduces carbon footprint dramatically—making a used coat instead of a new one saves about 25 kg of CO2. It's literally rewearing history.
