Slack

/slæk/ noun

Definition

The amount of time a task can be delayed without affecting the project deadline or other tasks. Also called float time, it represents scheduling flexibility in project management.

Etymology

From Old English 'slæc' (loose, not tight). In project management, adopted in the 1950s to describe 'loose' or flexible time in schedules, similar to slack in a rope.

Kelly Says

Slack time is like having a buffer in your morning routine - if you have 30 minutes of slack, you can sleep in without being late to work. Tasks on the critical path have zero slack, which is why they're so stressful to manage!
