Definition
Making a low, fierce growling sound while showing teeth, often to show anger or aggression; also speaking in an angry or aggressive way.
Etymology
From the verb 'snarl,' which comes from Middle English and may be related to the Norwegian 'snarren' (to turn). The word originally described the sound an animal makes. The '-ing' suffix creates the present participle form, meaning the action is happening now.
Kelly Says
Snarling is one of the few words that actually sounds like what it means—try saying it and you'll hear the 'ar' sound makes your throat tense up, just like a dog's throat when it snarls!
