Stomach

/ˈstʌmək/ noun

Definition

The organ in your body where food first goes to be mixed with juices and partly digested; also used to mean your belly area.

Etymology

From Latin “stomachus,” from Greek “stomachos,” meaning throat or gullet and later the main digestive organ. It originally referred to the upper part of the digestive tract.

Kelly Says

Your ‘stomach ache’ is often not just the stomach—it can involve intestines, muscles, or even stress. The stomach is so tied to feelings that we say we ‘can’t stomach’ something when we emotionally can’t handle it.
