Swallow

/ˈswɑloʊ/ verb

Definition

to cause food or drink to pass down the throat; to accept or believe without question

Etymology

from Old English swelgan, related to German schwelgen meaning 'to feast'

Kelly Says

Swallows the birds got their name because they catch insects by literally swallowing them mid-flight - talk about fast food! The verb and the bird name come from completely different etymological roots though.
