Tempered

/ˈtɛmpərd/ adjective

Definition

Having been subjected to a process of controlled heating and cooling to achieve desired properties, or moderated and balanced in character or behavior.

Etymology

From Latin temperare meaning 'to mix in due proportion' or 'to moderate.' Originally used in metallurgy for the process of strengthening steel, it later expanded to describe balanced personalities and moderate behaviors.

Kelly Says

The metallurgical process of tempering is a perfect metaphor for human development - both steel and people become stronger not through pure hardness, but through the right balance of strength and flexibility. A well-tempered sword can bend without breaking, just like a well-tempered person can adapt without losing their core principles.
