Texts

/tɛksts/ noun

Definition

Written or printed words, especially as the main body of a book or other publication. Short electronic messages sent between mobile devices.

Etymology

From Latin 'textus' meaning 'woven' or 'style', from 'texere' (to weave). Originally referred to the weaving of words together, later generalized to any written material.

Kelly Says

The metaphor of weaving in 'text' reveals how language literally creates the fabric of meaning. From ancient manuscripts to modern SMS, we're still weaving words together, thread by digital thread.
