Tuesdays

/ˈtuzdeɪz/ noun

Definition

Plural of Tuesday, the third day of the week following Monday. Can refer to multiple Tuesday occurrences or recurring Tuesday events.

Etymology

From Old English 'Tiwesdæg,' named after Tiw (also Tyr), the Germanic god of war and justice. This follows the pattern of naming days after Norse/Germanic deities, making Tuesday literally 'Tiw's day.'

Kelly Says

Tuesday carries the legacy of Tyr, the one-handed Norse god who sacrificed his hand to bind the monstrous wolf Fenrir - making Tuesday the day of noble sacrifice and justice. In many cultures, Tuesday is considered unlucky, possibly because Mars (Tuesday's Roman equivalent) was associated with war and conflict.
