Definition
Not emotionally affected or influenced by something; remaining calm and unimpressed despite efforts to persuade or convince.
Etymology
From 'un-' (negation prefix) plus 'moved' (from Latin 'movere' meaning to move). The emotional sense developed from the literal meaning—if you can't move someone physically, you can't move them emotionally either.
Kelly Says
This is a word that reveals how much we use physical metaphors for emotions: we 'move' people, we're 'touched,' we 'feel' things. Language treats emotions like they're literally touching our bodies!
