Etymology
Formed from 'unusual' plus the adverbial suffix '-ly.' 'Unusual' comes from the prefix 'un-' (not) plus 'usual' from Latin usualis meaning 'customary.' The word entered English in the late 16th century as descriptions of normalcy became more standardized.
