Definition
Plural of Wednesday, the fourth day of the week in most Western calendars. Often used to indicate recurring events on that day.
Etymology
From Old English 'Wōdnesdæg' (Woden's day), named after the Germanic god Woden (Norse Odin). The day was sacred to this god of wisdom, war, and death in pre-Christian Germanic cultures.
Kelly Says
Wednesday carries the DNA of ancient paganism right into our modern workweek - every time we say it, we're invoking Odin, the one-eyed god who hung himself from a tree to gain wisdom. It's the only day of the week that still clearly preserves its Old English form, making it a linguistic time capsule from over a thousand years ago.
