Antibaryon

/ˌæntɪˈbæriɑːn/ noun

Definition

In physics, the antimatter counterpart of a baryon, a subatomic particle made of three quarks.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + baryon (from Greek barys, heavy). Baryon was coined in the 1950s for heavy subatomic particles. Antibaryon emerged from particle physics in the 1950s when scientists discovered antimatter particles.

Kelly Says

Antibaryons are the mirror-image evil twins of regular baryons—they have opposite charges but identical mass! When a baryon and antibaryon meet, they annihilate each other in a burst of pure energy, which is literally what happens in the antimatter weapons in Star Trek.
