Definition
Making or characterized by a rustling sound; prone to rustling or whispering sounds.
Etymology
From English rustle (Middle English, probably imitative) with the prefix a- (in/into a state of), meaning 'in a rustling state' or 'rustling about.'
Kelly Says
The 'a-' prefix in words like 'arustle' and 'afire' is basically obsolete now, but it survives in poems where 'the leaves went arustle' sounds better than 'the leaves rustled.'
