Chinchasuyu

/ˌtʃɪntʃəˈsuːjuː/ noun

Definition

The northwestern region of the Incan empire, known for its coastal and highland territories extending into what is now Peru and Ecuador.

Etymology

From Quechua 'chincha' (possibly meaning 'bold' or 'fierce') and 'suyu' (meaning 'region' or 'division'). This was one of four major divisions of the Incan empire (Tawantinsuyu).

Kelly Says

The Incan empire was divided into four 'suyos' like compass directions, and Chinchasuyu in the northwest included some of the richest agricultural lands and most advanced civilizations before Incan conquest.
