Definition
A person or nation that colonises; someone who establishes or participates in establishing colonies in new territories.
Etymology
From 'colonise' + '-er' (agent noun suffix). British spelling; American English uses 'colonizer.' The term became standard in the 17th-18th centuries as European powers competed for overseas territories.
