Demiatheism

/ˌdɛmiˈeɪθiɪzəm/ noun

Definition

A partial or incomplete form of atheism; skepticism toward religion that doesn't fully reject the existence of God or the divine.

Etymology

From demi- (half, partial) + atheism (disbelief in gods). Coined to describe ambivalent or wavering disbelief rather than total rejection of religion.

Kelly Says

Demiatheism is what philosophers call 'agnosticism'—the idea that you're not sure, you're halfway to rejecting god—but this older term captures the existential discomfort of living in genuine uncertainty about the biggest questions.
