Depiedmontize

/ˌdeɪpɪɛdˈmɑːntaɪz/ verb

Definition

To remove Piedmontese characteristics, language, or cultural identity from something or someone.

Etymology

From de- (remove) + Piedmont (a region in Italy) + -ize (to make). Piedmont comes from Italian 'Piemonte' (literally 'at the foot of the mountains'). This is an extremely rare word, if not a neologism, referring to linguistic or cultural de-identification.

Kelly Says

This word is so specialized it's practically academic—it would only appear when discussing the suppression of Piedmontese language and culture, perhaps during periods of Italian nationalization. It's a word that exists mainly to describe loss of regional identity.
