Etymology
From Hebrew hamotzi, literally 'the one who brings forth.' This is a direct transliteration of the Hebrew blessing formula ha-motzi lechem min ha-aretz (the one who brings forth bread from the earth).

The blessing formula 'hamotzi' is one of the oldest continuous prayers still in daily use—Jewish families have recited nearly identical words for over two thousand years, making it one of the most-spoken Hebrew phrases in the world even among those who don't speak Hebrew.
