Idiocy

/ˈɪdiəsi/ noun

Definition

Extreme foolishness or stupidity; behavior that shows a complete lack of good sense.

Etymology

From Greek 'idiotes' (private person, ignorant person), from 'idios' (private, one's own). Originally meant being uneducated because you weren't involved in public affairs.

Kelly Says

In ancient Athens, 'idiotes' meant a private citizen not involved in politics—showing how 'stupid' originally just meant 'uninformed' or 'unaware of public matters.'
