Kairos

/ˈkaɪrɒs/ noun

Definition

The perfect or opportune moment for action — not clock time, but the right time, when conditions align and opportunity presents itself. It's time that's ripe with possibility and pregnant with meaning.

Etymology

Ancient Greek καιρός (kairos) represented qualitative time, as opposed to χρόνος (chronos), which was quantitative time. In Greek mythology, Kairos was the god of opportunity, depicted with a long forelock that could be grasped as he approached, but bald in back — symbolizing that opportunity must be seized as it arrives, not after it has passed.

Kelly Says

The ancient Greeks were BRILLIANT to distinguish between chronos and kairos! Chronos is what your watch measures, but kairos is what your soul recognizes — those perfect moments when the universe seems to conspire in your favor. It's the moment you meet your future spouse, the instant you realize your calling, the precise second when you should speak up or stay silent. The Greeks knew that the most important moments aren't on any schedule!
