Southeast

/ˌsaʊθˈist/ noun

Definition

The direction or compass point midway between south and east. A region lying in this direction from a particular place.

Etymology

Compound of 'south' (from Old English 'suth') and 'east' (from Old English 'east'). These directional terms have remained remarkably stable across Germanic languages for over a millennium.

Kelly Says

Southeast is fascinating because it represents one of the four intercardinal directions that split the difference between the cardinal points. In feng shui and many traditional navigation systems, the intercardinal directions were considered especially powerful because they balanced opposing energies.
