Definition
Anxious or fearful that something bad or unpleasant will happen.
Etymology
From Latin 'apprehendere' meaning 'to seize or grasp,' from 'ad-' (to) plus 'prehendere' (to seize). Originally meant 'quick to understand,' but evolved to mean 'quick to anticipate danger,' hence anxious.
Kelly Says
Your mind 'apprehends' (grabs onto) future problems before they happen! It's like your brain is a security guard that's always expecting trouble. The 'prehend' root appears in 'comprehend' and 'prehensile' (grasping).
